Skim Style Wakesurf Board — Phase Five — 2026

Who this is for

Advanced skim-style riders who want a pro-level board designed for technical progression — spins, shuv-its, reverts, and anything else you can dream up behind the boat. If you’ve outgrown your current board and you’re ready to ride what the pros ride on Okanagan Lake, this is it.

The board

The 2026 Phase Five Matrix Payne Pro is world champion Parker Payne’s signature model — the same board he rides in competition, with his custom graphics on the bottom. As we cover in our guide to choosing a wakesurf board, skim-style boards are designed for spins, shuv-its, and skate-inspired manoeuvres — and the Matrix is the most technical expression of that philosophy in the Phase Five lineup. The symmetrical outline means the board rides identically backwards, which is essential for reverts and technical combo tricks. Handmade in Venice, Florida, it’s the lightest and most explosive board in the P5 skim lineup — and a favourite of ocean skimboarders making the transition to the wake.

What makes it work

Hybrid Carbon™ Construction

Hybrid Carbon Innegra construction combines carbon and Innegra fibres for a board that is lightweight, stiff, and exceptionally durable. It’s the highest-end construction in the Phase Five skim lineup — fast, responsive, and built to handle the repeated impacts of progressive trick riding session after session.

Thin Core + Boxy Rails

The thinner core reduces swing weight and lets the board break loose faster, while the boxy rails load the tail with explosive pop on every trick attempt. This is the combination that gives the Matrix its signature “snappy” feeling that skim riders crave — fast to accelerate, immediate to respond.

Symmetrical Outline — Rides Backwards

The Matrix has a perfectly symmetrical shape from nose to tail. This isn’t cosmetic — it means the board performs identically in both directions. Land a revert and keep riding. Stomp a shuv-it and set up the next trick. The symmetry is what allows technical combo chains that asymmetrical boards simply can’t match.

Single 1” Skim Fin

The Matrix runs a single 1” skim fin — just enough tracking to keep you connected to the wake, but small enough to break loose the instant you initiate a spin. This is the setup that gives skim boards their signature loose, skatey feel, and it’s exactly what technical trick riding demands.

Size guide

Size Width Thickness Volume Weight Limit Rider Height
48” (4’) 20” 5/8” 7.5L Up to 135 lbs 4’8”–5’7” — special order
51” (4’3”) 20.25” 5/8” 8L Up to 160 lbs 5’1”–5’11”
53” (4’5”) 20.5” 5/8” 8.6L Up to 190 lbs 5’3”–6’1”
56” (4’8”) 20.75” 5/8” 9.3L Up to 225 lbs 5’7”–6’4”

Skim boards are typically ridden shorter than surf-style boards. As we note in our board guide, the lower swing weight of a shorter skim board is an advantage — it lets the board break loose and return faster. When in doubt between two sizes, go smaller. Not sure? Call us and we’ll help you pick the right size for your riding and wake.
