Performance Surf Style Wakesurf Board — Phase Five — 2026
|
Who this is for Experienced surf-style riders who want a board that was built specifically for the modern wake. If your boat throws a big, steep, fast wave and you feel like your current board is fighting it rather than using it, the Sensei is what John Akerman designed to solve that exact problem. Big Wave Riders The narrow profile and pulled-in tail keep control on the steeper, faster wakes of modern surf boats — where a wider board starts to feel loose and unpredictable at speed. |
The 2026 Phase Five Sensei is a brand new shape from John Akerman — and the reason it exists is straightforward. As wakesurf waves have grown bigger and steeper over recent years, the surf-style boards that worked on smaller wakes started struggling to keep up. Akerman saw the problem and designed a board specifically for those man-made swells: a narrow profile with a pulled-in tail that stays controlled at speed, a straight-angled midsection that channels drive seamlessly into the tail, and a winged tail that creates a super-narrow pivot point for explosive, precise turns at the most critical moments on the wave. Unlike the Koal Classic Fish, which prioritises stability and forgiveness, the Sensei is built for riders who have already mastered those fundamentals and are ready to push harder. It’s the most technically demanding surf-style board in the Phase Five lineup — and the most rewarding when you unlock what it can do on Okanagan Lake’s biggest wakes.

Weight ranges are for average fitness and ability. Experienced riders may prefer a smaller size; those newer to surf-style performance boards may benefit from sizing up. As we cover in our board guide, your boat’s wake size also factors in — a smaller or shorter wake may call for more volume. Not sure? Call us.
