All-Mountain Freeride — Lib Tech — 2027

Who this is for

You are an advanced to expert all-mountain rider who has heard about the Orca for years — or already owns one — and wants the next evolution of the most celebrated freeride board in snowboarding. The original Orca earned its legend. The II is what Travis built after he ran out of things to improve on the original.

The board

For years the original Orca was one of snowboarding's most untouchable designs — riders didn't just ride it, they collected it, upgraded it season after season, and stacked quivers around it. Now, for the first time, Travis Rice and Mervin have rebuilt the shape from the ground up. The Orca II keeps everything that made the original legendary — the long floaty nose that eats Revelstoke pow lines, the tight 7m sidecut that trenches hardpack carves most boards can't touch, the Magne-Traction® edge grip that keeps you locked in when Silver Star groomers go bulletproof — and adds a completely new Whale Tail Technology tail that's wider, floatier, and more poppy for both regular and switch riding. A new Makah Hemlock core brings more energy to every turn. If you already own an Orca, you know what this board does. What's new is that it does everything a little better, and it does it switch.

See it in action

Camber Profile

Directional C2X Hybrid

Mild rocker between the feet for float and catch-free turn initiation, with powerful camber zones to both tips for pop, precision, and edge hold. The profile that rips resort groomers, charges hardpack, and still floats powder without a fight.

Shape

Directional — Volume Shifted

Long floaty nose, shorter powerful tail with setback and taper. Floats in pow like a board two sizes up; wide enough to lock rails on hardpack without toe drag. Size down 3–6 cm from your normal length.

What makes it work

Whale Tail Technology™ — NEW

The biggest change in the Orca II. A redesigned tail that's wider and floatier than the original, maximizing contact and pop in both directions. Switch takeoffs and landings now feel as natural as going regular — without giving up the Orca's signature tail snap.

Magne-Traction®

Seven serrated edge segments that dig into hardpack and ice where a smooth edge would slip. The feature that turned the Orca from a pow board into a legitimate all-mountain weapon — and one of the main reasons Orca riders don't switch brands.

Makah Hemlock Core — NEW

Strong, poppy Makah Hemlock sustainably harvested by the Makah tribe near Mervin's factory in Washington. Lighter and livelier than the previous core — more snap edge to edge, more energy on takeoff. A meaningful upgrade, not a cosmetic one.

7m Sidecut Radius

One of the tightest sidecuts in freeride snowboarding. Digs deep trenching carves on groomers and makes the board far more agile in trees than its size suggests. The tight sidecut is also what makes the wide waist work for a wide range of boot sizes.

Ocean-Bound PBT Topsheet — NEW

Eco-sublimated topsheet made from recycled PET plastic recovered from coastal areas. Impact-resistant and UV-stable — and Lib Tech actually backs that sustainability story up. Part of a real environmental program, not just marketing language.

Orca Conservancy Donation

A portion of every Orca II sold goes to the Orca Conservancy — Travis and Mervin's ongoing commitment to protecting the Southern Resident Killer Whales of the Salish Sea. The board's name isn't just branding.

Mervin Made — Washington, USA

Handbuilt at Mervin Manufacturing in Sequim, Washington — zero hazardous waste, no outsourcing, no compromises in quality control. Every Orca II is made in the same factory where Lib Tech has built boards since 1987.

Volume-shifted board — Lib Tech recommends sizing down 3–6 cm from your normal length. Weight figures are minimums, not a ceiling — heavier riders should size up accordingly. The 138–150 sizes run a narrower waist profile suited to riders with smaller feet; the 153–162 sizes step up to a wider platform. When in doubt, come in — we'll sort it out.

About the volume-shifted platform The Orca II runs wide — but the 7m sidecut actively compensates for that width, making it more responsive edge-to-edge than the numbers suggest. It works well across a range of boot sizes, not just large ones. Bigger feet will appreciate the platform; regular to smaller boots ride it just fine. Size down 3–6 cm from your normal length — that's the intended setup, not optional.

The Lib Tech Orca II is available in-store at Attridge Ski & Board in Vernon, BC — your home base for Silver Star, Revelstoke, and Big White. We ship free across Canada on orders over $150.
